Different types of hair removal lasers 

There are several hair removal systems, each with its own benefits and applications.

The best known is the diode laser, whose wavelength of around 810nm makes it suitable for many skin and hair types. There are also diode lasers with multiple wavelengths that allow them to safely treat even more skin types. 

Another popular method for permanent hair reduction is IPL, working at different wavelengths between 500-1200nm that works best on light skin with coarse, dark hair. 

Finally, there are Alexandrite and Nd:YAG hair removal lasers that operate at wavelengths of 755nm and 1064nm, respectively. The power of these systems makes it possible to deliver faster treatments and achieve even better results.

There are also diode lasers with these wavelengths, but they do not possess the same force and adjustability as systems with a real alexandrite or Nd:YAG crystal.

Examples of Alexandrite or Nd:YAG lasers are the GentleLase Pro-U and GentleYag Pro-U. A combination of both lasers in one platform, such as the GentleMax Pro and the GentleMax Pro Plus, also makes the system usable for all skin types. 

Diode laser: efficient and reliable

One of the best-known methods for laser hair removal is the diode laser. This laser is very effective for permanently reducing unwanted hair growth, but is slightly less powerful than other lasers. However, this does not make the diode laser any less reliable.

With the laser, you can perform hair removal treatments accurately and safely. Diode lasers with a wavelength of around 810nm can be used for many skin types and hair types. Some diode lasers are enhanced with additional wavelengths, making them safer for darker skin as well. 

Hair removal with IPL: versatile and safe

Another popular method for permanent hair reduction is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). IPL treats the skin with short and powerful flashes of light.

The pigment in the hair and hair root absorbs this light energy and converts it into heat, destroying the hair follicles. IPL works best on light skin with dark hair, as it is important that there is sufficient contrast. The Nordlys platform offers two IPL handpieces suitable for hair removal.

Alexandrite laser: fast and effective

The GentleLase Pro-U is the most powerful Alexandrite laser and a quick and effective method for laser hair removal. The laser absorbs into the pigment of the hair, destroying the hair follicle. Due to its short wavelength of 755nm, this hair removal laser can only be used for lighter skin types.

Because the Alexandrite laser's wavelength is well tailored to thin and fine hairs on lighter skin types, the treatment is even safer and more effective. 

Nd:YAG laser: fast and safe for darker skin types

The GentleYag Pro-U is the latest generation Nd:YAG laser and an excellent option for people with darker skin and/or finer hair.

This laser has a higher wavelength of 1064nm and absorbs pigment less strongly, penetrating deeply. This damages the hair follicles, but not the skin. Thus, with the Nd:YAG laser, you stop hair growth and it is safe to use on dark skin.
