What is a fractional laser?
Fractional laser treatment is an advanced method in which the laser energy creates microscopic columns of heat in the skin. These controlled injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process, promote collagen production and the formation of new, healthy skin cells. The 'fractional' aspect refers to the ability to treat a fraction of the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This helps in faster healing and shorter recovery time unlike traditional lasers that treat the entire skin surface.
Fractional lasers can be divided into two categories: ablative and non-ablative lasers.
Ablative fractional lasers
A fractional, ablative laser delivers high-energy laser beams that remove thin columns of skin tissue through evaporation. This evaporation promotes more aggressive collagen production and skin renewal. During repair, damaged skin is replaced by new skin cells. It is particularly effective for treating deep wrinkles, scars and overall skin rejuvenation. As it involves removal of skin layers, some recovery time is expected after treatment.
Non-ablative, fractional lasers
A fractional, non-ablative laser also creates columns in the skin tissue, but will not evaporate skin in the process. This treatment stimulates collagen production and promotes natural skin healing. It is an excellent choice for skin rejuvenation, reducing scars and treating pigmentation. The major advantage of non-ablative treatments compared to ablative ones is that the skin surface remains intact. As a result, the treatments are less aggressive and have a shorter recovery time, allowing patients to quickly resume their daily activities.
Possible treatments with a fractional laser
With a fractional laser you can effectively treat various skin conditions, including:
- Wrinkles: reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance.
- Coarse skin texture: smoothen and even out unevenness for a healthy look.
- Large skin pores: reduce the size of pores for a refined skin texture.
- Striae: treat stretch marks and improve skin texture.
- Acne: reduce scars caused by acne.
- Scars: softens and reduces the appearance of scars for more even skin.
- Pigmentation spots: reduce hyperpigmentation and get a more even complexion.
- Sun-damaged skin: repair damage caused by sun exposure.
Dalton Medical's fractional lasers
Dalton Medical offers a comprehensive range of lasers for fractional laser treatments. Our systems combine advanced technologies with clinically proven results to provide optimal treatment options. Below is an overview of some of our fractional lasers:
Lasering Slim Evolution II MiXto Pro
This ablative, CO₂ laser platform is a versatile system that enables targeted skin improvements at different skin levels. With the Slim Evolution II MiXto Pro you can effectively treat deep wrinkles, scars and overall skin ageing, among others. The handpiece contains a digital scanner in which the micro-spots are not distributed sequentially over the tissue, but according to a ''Z-algorithm''. With this pattern, excessive heat is avoided due to accumulation of energy. This makes the treatment safer and more comfortable. Through the 'Venezia Lift' extension, this platform offers the possibility of performing non-ablative treatments with a shorter recovery time in addition to a more aggressive, ablative approach. In addition, in combination with the 'V-Lase' handpiece, the platform can also be used for gynaecological applications such as vaginal laxity, dryness, atrophy and urinary incontinence.
Candela Nordlys
The elegant Candela Nordlys combines an ergonomic Nd:YAG laser with 6 unique Selective Waveband Technology (SWT) handpieces and the non-ablative Frax 1550 and Frax 1940 lasers. With the Frax 1550 handpiece penetrating deeper into the skin, you can perform treatments quickly and with minimal recovery time. You can control both the width and depth of the laser columns in the skin, giving you full control over the thermal effects. This makes the Frax 1550 ideal for treating deeper indications such as wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars and overall skin improvement. In addition to the Frax 1550, Nordlys also offers the Frax 1940 handpiece. The wavelength of this laser works on the more superficial layers of skin, making it very suitable for more superficial indications such as textural differences and sun damage and improving overall skin tone.
Candela Frax Pro
In addition to the innovative Nordlys platform, Candela also has the Frax Pro developed. Compatible with the Frax 1550 and Frax 1940 handpieces, this compact laser platform for non-ablative treatments can be used for both deep and superficial skin improvement. The Frax Pro is lightweight, has a touchscreen and offers clinical intelligence for comfortable and effective treatment.
Candela PicoWay
The PicoWay is the system of choice for treating tattoos, pigmented lesions and skin improvement, among others. It uses picosecond laser technology, delivering extremely short pulses (trillionths of a second). The fractional Resolve handpiece allows you to stimulate collagen production through LIOBs (laser-induced optical breakdown) without generating excess heat, resulting in less damage to surrounding tissues. This not only makes the recovery time very short, but also makes this method safer to use on darker skin types. The fractional handpiece can be used effectively to treat all kinds of pigment, scars and wrinkles.
Fotona SP Dynamis
The highly multifunctional platform SP Dynamis with two complementary wavelengths (1064nm and 2940nm), Fotona offers a wide range of options for all major aesthetic treatments. The wide choice of advanced accessories (handpieces and scanners) and adjustment options allow you to make optimal treatment choices. The FS01 Er:YAG handpiece is the ablative fractional handpiece in which the depth effect, degree of coverage and degree of ablation and coagulation can be individually determined. This allows both very mild and very aggressive treatment. Specifically, this handpiece can be used to treat deeper scars, wrinkles and texture problems, among others. Fractionated treatments can also be combined in the same session with one or more other modalities available on this platform. With the F-Runner fractional scanner handpiece, treatments become even faster.
Fotona TimeWalker
The multifunctional system TimeWalker by Fotona is the smaller version of the Fotona SP Dynamis and contains two complementary wavelengths (1064nm and 2940nm). This compact and elegant system is ideally suited for skin improvement of all skin layers on the face. The laser is compatible with the fractionated, ablative FS01 handpiece which, in addition to overall skin rejuvenation, also allows treatment of deeper wrinkles, scars and textural problems.
Fotona StarWalker
The StarWalker from Fotona is an advanced, highly versatile and multifunctional laser platform suitable for a wide range of applications within aesthetics. Besides tattoo removal and pigment enhancement, the FracTAT technology also allows you to effectively treat skin ageing, reduced skin texture and scars by means of fractionated photoacoustic shock waves just below the tissue surface (non-ablative). Because of the extremely short pulses, this technique is also very suitable for more pigmented skin. The FracTAT can also be used at high energy to obtain micro-puncture of tissue (ablative), which improves skin texture and optimises tattoo removal treatments.
